THEME OVERVIEW

Innovation is one key factor to improve productivity, competitive positioning and, thus, profits. Over time destinations and organizations have failed to succeed due to non-competitive environment. This is true particularly for developing countries in which many destinations and organizations are still in their infancy, thus lacking the ability to exploit technologies, competencies, and knowledge. Innovation is also a risky task. Many innovations fail at a high cost. More knowledge on innovations and tasks associated with innovation will increase likelihood that activities are developed successfully. Typically incompetence’s of organization and unstructured destination lead more likely to failure. This time the Department of Tourism and Hospitality of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in The Open University of Tanzania has taken initiative to bring together different tourism stakeholders to an International Conference on Tourism and Hospitality Innovations in Developing Economies to be held in The Open University of Tanzania Head Office, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The conference is a platform where different academicians, researchers, educators and practitioners will present, share and exchange research-based ideas and findings to the destination and organization innovations challenges.

It is located in the East Africa and its known for its enormous wilderness areas that include the plains of Serengeti National Park, a safari Mecca populated by the “big five” game (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino) and Kilimanjaro National Park, home to Africa’s highest mountain.
